Ingredients
- 1 C cornmeal, water ground
- 2 T. melted soy-free margarine
- ½ tsp. salt
- Cold water, as needed
Instructions
- Mix the cornmeal with salt, butter, and just enough cold water to make a hard dough.
- Mash the dough as thin as you like with your fingers.
- Fry the cakes to golden brown. (Note 1)
Note 1:
You can add sugar and baking powder to this recipe.
Note 2:
Hoe cakes are made the same way as above, only you use a greased griddle or hot skillet. Naturally, this method cooks cakes much more quickly on a stove.
